Predators Get Football Gear

PREDATORS Football Club recently received football equipment and uniforms courtesy the German Ambassador, Ernst Martens.

The German handed over the equipment to club president Krishna Murity Ramjit, last Thursday at their ground in Cunupia, central Trinidad.

Predators FC, a Cunupia-based team was founded in May 2001 and joined the Central Football Association (CFA) Football League.

The side, formerly known as the Cunupia International All-Stars FC provides a facility by which youths in the community can play and enjoy football as well as develop their skills and technical abilities.

Currently there are 25 members of the team which are training for the 2008/2009 edition of the CFA Football League and preparations are being made for the Predators FC 2008 Youth Camp. The donation by the German Ambassador was made available in the framework of the Sports Promotion Programme of the German Foreign Office. And it coincides with the 2008 European Football Championship — UEFA EURO 2008 — held in the Alpine countries of Austria and Switzerland in which Germany finished second, losing to Spain in the final 1-0 courtesy a Fernando Torres strike.

And further from the Embassy website:

Germany boosts local Predators

To strengthen youth football in Trinidad and Tobago, the German Ambassador Dr. Ernst Martens was handing over football equipment and outfits to Mr. Krishna Murity Ramjit, President of the Predators Football Club in Cunupia during a training session of the Predators on Thursday 26 June 2008.

The Predators Football Club was founded in May 2001 and shortly after entered the Central Football Association (CFA) Football League. Since then, the club, then called the Cunupia International Allstars Football Club, has been providing a facility so that the youth of the Cunupia community can play and enjoy football as well as develop their skills and technical abilities as Footballers. Currently the Twenty Five (25) member senior team is training for the 2008/2009 edition of the CFA Football League and preparations are being made for the Predators Football Club 2008 Youth Summer Camp.

This donation was made available in the framework of the Sports Promotion Programme of the German Foreign Office. It coincides with the 2008 European Football Championship - UEFA Euro 2008 - currently being held in the Alpine countries of Austria and Switzerland from 7 – 29 June 2008.

The History Of The Predators Football Club

In Central Trinidad, cricket is the predominant sport and there are lots of facilities available where cricketers can participate and enjoy the sport that they are passionate about. Cricketers in Central Trinidad have the luxury of being able to choose which Cricket Club they would like to play for since there are so many of them available and most of them are all well supported by the business community so they are able to provide more than adequate facilities for their members. This is wonderful for the Cricketers but what about those who are passionate about football instead? Of all the Football Clubs in Trinidad, only a handful belongs to Central Trinidad and this makes it difficult for Footballers to nurture their talent and develop their technical abilities as Footballers simply because there are only a few facilities that are readily available to them. Because of this, Footballers from Central Trinidad are forced to seek facilities outside of their community if they can afford to commute to and from another community to attend training sessions but the ones who are not fortunate to do so, their talent are wasted away.

For this reason, in May 2001, an initiative was taken by Mr. Krishna Murity Ramjit to provide a facility to promote the Game of Association Football and to positively develop the youth of the Cunupia community through football. He founded the Cunupia International All-stars Football Club and was the sole financier for the 2001/2002 season during which, the Club entered the Central Football Association (CFA) Football League. The Club performed well under Coach Michael Defoo in its first season at this level of football placing 4th in the League and 3rd in the Knock-Out phase of the completion showing a lot of potential.

Since then, the club has been providing a facility so that the youth of the Cunupia community can play and enjoy football as well as develop their skills and technical abilities as Footballers. In January 2008, the management of the club decided that changes were necessary. The club name was changed to Predators Football Club and a more professional outlook was given to the club. Currently the Twenty Five (25) member senior team is training for the 2008/2009 edition of the CFA Football League and preparations are being made for the “Predators Football Club 2008 Youth Summer Camp”. This camp is scheduled to commence on July 07, 2008 and is geared towards developing the skills of the younger players. Therefore, this camp is tailored for players (Boys and Girls) between the ages of Eight (8) and Fifteen (15) who will be on vacation from school during the months of July and August.

The Predators Football Club believes that in order for the quality and standard of football in Trinidad and Tobago to improve, more attention should be given to Grassroots Football hence the reason Predators Football Club was formed.
