Marc Honore Stays With VfB Friedrichshafen

The volleyball fans in Friedrichshafen can look forward to more Caribbean flair in the next two seasons. Middle blocker Marc Honore extended his contract with VfB for two more years with the option of a third. "I'm staying because I enjoy being part of this team," he said, "I still want to learn a lot at VfB and to keep improving myself."

His coach, Stelian Moculecsu, is thrilled to keep him on the team. "I am very pleased with his development," he said, adding that Honore is a quick study and hard working. Even though there were a couple players ahead of him in the pecking order for the middle position the coach believes that as long as he keeps up his work rate he will be playing more next season: "Marc still has time and the perspective to play an important role for VfB."

Honore is the first player from Trinidad and Tobago to sign a professional volleyball contract and so is a bit of a star back home. He looks back on his first season in Friedrichshafen with satisfaction. "The season was great. We were very successful and our fans were always unbelievable. I'd like to thank them for that," he says, "I am happy that we were league champions and cup winners."

In the coming year the 2.04 meter tall giant wants not only to improve his German, but also, of course his playing skills. "My goal is to learn and become a better volleyball player. I hope that we will be just as successful as last season and that we manage to make the final round of the Champions League."

Mittelblocker Marc Honore bleibt beim VfB Friedrichshafen. Der 23-Jährige verlängerte seinen Vertrag um zwei Jahre mit einem weiteren Jahr Option. „Ich möchte beim VfB noch viel lernen und mich weiter verbessern“, sagt der Nationalspieler aus Trinidad und Tobago.

Die Volleyballfans in Friedrichshafen können sich auch in den beiden kommenden Spielzeiten auf karibisches Flair freuen. Mittelblocker Marc Honore verlängerte seinen Vertrag beim VfB um zwei Jahre mit einem weiteren Jahr als Option. „Ich bleibe, weil es mir sehr gefällt, ein Teil dieses Teams zu sein“, sagt der 23-Jährige. „Ich möchte beim VfB noch viel lernen und mich weiter verbessern.“

Auch VfB-Trainer Stelian Moculescu freut sich, Honore weiterhin in seinem Team zu haben. „Ich bin mit seiner Entwicklung sehr zufrieden“, sagt er und beschreibt ihn als „sehr lernfähig und fleißig“. Auch, wenn Honore in der vergangenen Saison meist Joao José und Juliano Bendini in der Mitte den Vortritt lassen musste, traut ihm sein Coach weitaus mehr zu. „Wenn er so weiter macht, wird er in der nächsten Saison sicherlich mehr spielen“, sagt Moculescu. „Er muss noch kein Killer sein. Denn Marc hat noch Zeit und die Perspektive, beim VfB einmal eine wichtige Rolle zu spielen.“

Honore, der der erste Profivolleyballer in Trinidad und Tobago und damit ein Star in seiner Heimat ist, blickt ebenfalls zufrieden auf sein erstes Jahr in Friedrichshafen zurück. „Die Saison war großartig. Wir waren erfolgreich und unsere Fans waren die ganze Zeit unglaublich. Dafür möchte ich mich bedanken“, sagt er. „Ich bin glücklich, dass wir Deutscher Meister und Pokalsieger geworden sind.“

Für die kommende Saison hat sich der 2,04 Meter-Riese nicht nur vorgenommen, sein ohnehin schon gutes Deutsch noch weiter zu verbessern. Natürlich will er auch in sportlicher Hinsicht vorankommen. „Mein Ziel ist es, zu lernen und ein besserer Volleyballspieler zu werden“, sagt Honore. „Ich hoffe, dass wir mit unserem Team genauso erfolgreich sind wie in der vergangenen Saison und wir es schaffen, die Finalrunde der Champions League zu erreichen.“

Zum Aufgebot des VfB Friedrichshafen für die Saison 2008/2009 zählen damit bisher: Kapitän Joao José und Marc Honore (Mittelblock), Robert Hupka (Außenangriff) sowie Lukas Kampa (Zuspiel).
